Welcome back! I took a few weeks off Substack while I was in the thick of book release events and promotion. It’s been amazing and I’m so grateful for all the support, but it has meant I’ve had not much time for anything else, so I’m super excited to get back into this. You’ll notice my newsletter is now behind a paywall as I said would be happening in my pervious newsletters.. I am incredibly grateful to anyone who can support my work as it enables me to make the time for this platform that it deserves. <3
Although I visited Florence when I was about ten and remember very little, I’ve been desperate to go back since. Over the first May bank holiday weekend, I booked a trip to take Hugo for three nights and four days. While I have so much good to say about Florence and always enjoy romanticising life, particularly holidays, I do also want to say that I did find the extreme amount of tourists in the city quite overwhelming.
Now, while I say that I am FULLY aware that, as a tourist myself, I am obviously part of this problem.. but I had no idea how busy and popular Florence is and had I known, I probably would’ve 1. chosen to stay in Tuscany and come into Florence for a day or 2. gone to Florence in the low-er season.
Aside from that, we did have the most lovely time and I raced through The Wedding People by Alison Espach, which I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for a light-hearted, addictive book this summer. Below is my suggested itinerary for three days in Florence:
One more note to add, be prepared to queue at any tourist attraction or restaurant where you can’t book and do make sure you book the restaurants that are bookable.
